First road trip with the Ram pulling the Cougar was to West Virginia and Virginia. We headed from North Carolina up to White Sulphur Springs. We cut north up to Lake Sherwood Recreation Area. This was a good test for the Cougar systems since there were no hook ups. We spent 2 nights at Lake Sherwood. It is a very relaxing, quiet, and laid back campground. This was in mid-June and there was hardly anyone there. Nice size spaces. Well maintained campground. The only negative for us was the lack of cell service.

After we left Lake Sherwood, we headed up to Seneca Rocks WV. It was a very scenic drive north. We had a reservation at Seneca Shadows Campground in the Spruce Knob and Seneca Rocks Recreation Area. We stayed two nights and had electric. Our site was number 35 in loop C. While there we visited Seneca Caverns and Spruce Knob.

We then ventured over the mountains via highway 33 to Virginia. We stayed 3 nights at the Lynchburg KOA and checked out the area. Had a nice drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the entrance of Shenandoah National Park.  Being a civil war buff, we also made a visit to Appomattox Court House National Historic Park. After we left Lynchburg, we had a reservation at Devils Backbone Camp near Roseland Va. It is a little pricey but worth it when you consider the unique amenities. Excellent beer and food is just a short walk from the campground. A cell tower is in view of the campground and we had a full signal. The only thing to pay attention to is which side the hook ups are on. But you can pull in to the camp sites from either direction fairly easily.

Road trip # 1 was a great test of the Cougar and we had no issues that we couldn’t figure out. We made visits to Lake Sherwood, Seneca Rocks, Seneca Caverns, Blue Ridge Parkway, town of Lynchburg, and Appomattox Court House. Not bad for a first trip, not including a quick jaunt to Cape Hatteras to learn how to tow the Cougar.
