This trip is just a short two week tour with stays in Georgia and South Carolina. Our first stop was to Petersburg Campground located north of Augusta, Georgia. Petersburg is a US Army Corps of Engineers campground located on the Strom Thurmond reservoir. This is our second time to this campground. We camped here last year in January. This is a great campground with excellent rates, especially if you hold the National Park Service Pass. The Corps of Engineers really knows how to build and maintain a campground.
After Petersburg, we headed to Edisto Beach State Park out on the South Carolina coast, located north of Savannah and south of Charleston. Edisto Beach State Park is right on the coast. We camped in site 18 and it was about 50 feet to the dune. A really nice state park and the town is right across the road and an easy walk from the campground. Between the town and the State Park, this was a nice location to break out the Rad’s for bike riding.
After Edisto, we headed to another South Carolina State Park, Huntington Beach. Huntington Beach State Park is located near Murrells Inlet, SC. This is a pretty good size state park and contains Atalaya, which was a winter home of the Huntington’s back in the 1930’s. We camped in site 138, which was a full hook up site. A real bonus considering this is a state park. This park provides great biking, hiking, and walking, with a beautiful beach.
