The Cougar sat idle for the winter. It is time for a spring road trip. We planned a quick two week outing up to Colonial Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg, followed by a southern swing through Virginia Beach and Oregon Inlet. Quite a nice RV trip. 

Our first stop was Chippokes Plantation State Park, Virginia. This is a very nice state park with a farm museum, old plantation home, and a great campground. It is perfectly located 5 miles from the Jamestown ferry. Utilizing the ferry made visiting Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown very easy. If you are RV’ing and want to visit the colonial sites, I recommend Chippokes State Park campground. We were on site B01, which had water and electric. The bathhouse was very clean.

After spending five days at Chippokes, we took a short drive down the road to First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach. The First Landing campground is very large and is a mixed bag of tent sites, small RV sites, and medium sized RV sites, and a handful of large RV sites. We were on site 201, which we could fit the 26 foot Cougar in with no problem. Need to pay attention to the site size when booking, and the campground roads are pretty narrow. Other than that, a really nice state park and beach.

Our last stop on this road trip was to the Oregon Inlet campground, which is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. We were on site 31, which had water and electric. There is a dump station across highway 12 at the marina. There are several trails through the dunes to the beach. Great camping rate for old people with the National Park Senior Lifetime pass. From the campground we explored the Wright Brothers National Memorial, Fort Raleigh to figure out the Lost Colony, and had a great lunch in Wanchese.
