We obviously aren’t the brightest people on the planet, because it is August and for our third road trip in the Cougar, we decided to head to Charleston SC. Well it was a good test of the Cougar’s air conditioning system and it worked great. The Cougar is obviously well insulated, and since it is considered a 4 season travel trailer, obviously one of those seasons is summer.
We stayed 4 days at the campground at James Island County Park. It is a gem. What a great campground. Excellent bike trails. Very convenient to Charleston a couple of miles to the north, and to Folly Beach a couple of miles to the south. The only thing to keep in mind is to follow the recommended driving routes to get to the campground due to low tree branches. Our Cougar isn’t very tall, so we had no issues. But I could definitely see where tall fifth wheels would need to use extreme caution.
While there we spent a day walking around Charleston and seeing the sites. One of our favorites is The Charleston Museum. This is a great museum for both Revolutionary War history and Civil War history. I love history. Charleston has to be one of the best walking cities to explore in the US.
